The Office of Mayor Joe Yochum, City of Vincennes, is pleased to announce that we have received notice of a successful grant application. In March of this year, an application was made to the Traffic Safety Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The $41,000 award, which includes a 10% local match, will be used to create a complete computerized sign inventory for all city street and traffic signs. Using the proper sign requirements can reduce crashes by 25% to 39%. In particular, this applies to nighttime and elderly driving. The sign inventory, or a method in place to maintain the minimum levels, provides a city with the knowledge of what signs are existing and what is needed. A sign inventory also puts the city in compliance with Section 2A.07 of the Federal MUTCD (Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices). Our office looks forward to working with INDOT in the near future to begin the grant administration.
